Fried TWINKIES?? Really???

San Jacinto Riverfront RV Park, Houston area, April 15 – 16, 2015 (Absolutely TERRIBLE wifi, took an hour to upload the above photos and two I couldn't upload at all.)

Well, it was almost an oops. I thought the game was a night game. It wasn’t. Nevertheless, through a series of serendipitous happenings, we made it by the 2nd inning. And we got a fantastic parking spot because they opened up lots of handicapped spots just about the time we got there so we were just steps from Globe Life Park, the home of the Texas Rangers. Of course our seats were near first base and the entrance we were just steps from was by center field. Not complaining, mind you, since we were going to walk all around the stadium anyway.

This is Nolan Ryan country so of course there was a statue of him in the “center field courtyard” and of course we had to get a photo of CB (aka Cubby Bear) nestled in Nolan’s arm. And photos in a few other places as well.

The stadium (brief aside—or maybe not so brief—the places where major league baseball is played have many generic monikers: field, park, and stadium come immediately to mind. Not to mention “yard” as in Camden Yards. And the actual names of the fields, parks, and stadiums, which used to relate to the team which played there [like Tiger Field] or the location [Three Rivers], now almost exclusively are named for the company who pays enough to advertise on the stadium [e.g., AT&T {Giants} and Globe Life {Rangers}]. There are holdouts with original names [Fenway, Wrigley] and I look forward to watching games in those old stadiums. In general I’m going to use the term “stadium” to refer generically to the places we are going where baseball is played. Ok, back to the main point.) is a somewhat beautiful homage to many of the older stadiums. It is definitely an interesting place to look at, both from the inside and the outside.

The game was a blowout for the Angels (10 – 2) and the weather was fabulous. We lucked out in our choice of seats: we were in the sun but our backs were to it so, while we were a bit warm, we didn’t have to squint.

Today (April 16, 2015) we drove to Houston for our game tomorrow night (yes, I checked!) and got caught in a typical thunder/lightning storm downpour. But we made it and are now relaxing prior to the tour of Astros stadium tomorrow morning (yes, I double checked that, too). We also stopped at a (to me) typical Texas restaurant and had our first “chicken fried steak” in probably 50 years. Well, I had a chicken fried steak, Randy had some abomination called a Texas Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. The chicken fried steak wasn’t all that great either.
